Monthly Member Challenge!

I hope everyone enjoyed March's challenge; I know I know for me getting my mind to slow down and to just sit with my breath is a challenge. I'm always thinking about the next thing I need or want to get done! But this challenge really helps me to clear my mind, and find a bit of relaxation in an otherwise busy day!

Now onto this month's challenge!

This month we are going to focus on movement, different from the 1 mile per day challenge, this month we are focusing on 10,000 steps per day! Spring has sprung and it's time to start getting outside more and getting more natural vitamin D!

Challenge Goals:

  • 8,000 of these steps should be outside
  • At least 2 miles done in one continuous walk, this will take about 40 minutes
  • if you already get 10,000 steps per day, then once per week make your 2 miles a steady state jog, get your heart rate to about 110-125 bpm, and stay there for the entire 2 miles. You should not have labored breathing, you should be able to hold a conversation...that's when you know you're in a steady state cardio exercise and your heart rate is not too high.

Benefits of 10,000 steps per day:

  • Improved overall health
  • Improved cardiovascular health: Regular walking can help lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart disease, and improve blood circulation.
  • Weight management: Walking burns calories and can help with weight loss or weight management.
  • Increased energy and mood: Walking releases endorphins, which can boost energy levels and improve mood.
  • Better sleep: Regular physical activity, like walking, can improve the quality of sleep.
  • Reduced risk of chronic diseases: Walking regularly can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and stroke.

Ways to Increase Your Steps:

  • Taking short walks throughout the day
  • Using the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Parking farther away from your destination
  • Dancing
  • Playing with pets, kids, or grandkids
